Supporting the largest data center in the country
with the Charles substation

Scope

Substation construction to support a new high-capacity data center in Georgia.

In Georgia, Service Electric is working to build the Charles substation, a system with a footprint of 800 x 200 feet and the capacity to support the largest data center in the United States.

While the grid continues to require more and more energy nationwide, much of the strain comes from high capacity data centers to fuel our daily operations. Service Electric is committed to doing our part to support the growth and expansion of the grid, and substations like this one are just one small piece.

Throughout the project, an average of four eight-man crews has been working to overcome challenges like changing road access conditions, rocky soil while drilling, and coordination with a grading contractor. Even with being set back by a month, crews have been able to meet deadlines with only minimal overtime work and zero incidents.

Data center construction is only going to increase, and Service Electric has our sights set on several more substations to help keep up with the demand that these data centers will require.
