An Early spring snow storm wreaks havoc on the
central Maine power grid.

Scope

275 Service Electric employees supported Central Maine Power with emergency restoration after an early spring nor’easter knocks out power for 90,000 customers.

While most think of major hurricanes when they think of storm relief work, any major weather event can cause disruptions in power. In Maine, high levels of snow, wind, or freezing temperatures can result in disruptions to the power grid.

This past April, while states in the South were enjoying warmer temps and the beginning of Spring, Maine experienced an early spring Nor’easter that brought heavy snow, which wreaked havoc on the power grid. The storm knocked out power for 90,000 of the 129,000 Central Maine Power customers. Authorities called for extra hands to restore power in Portland, Maine and Service Electric was happy to answer the call and help bring the power back.

From April 4th through the 10th, more than 275 men from the East, Middle, and West Tennessee regions traveled north, offering a total of 28,195 man hours to help restore power to the community.

We’re grateful for the chance to work with Central Maine Power and experience some storm work outside of the ‘norm’.
